Xbox:Softmod Update

This guide will walk you through upgrading any softmod to the latest version using Rocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool. This tool automatically detects your softmod version, properly cleans it up, installs the latest softmod, and installs the latest UnleashX dashboard. This page is only for use if your system is already softmodded.

A video demonstration of upgading your softmod can be found on MrMario2011's channel.

Using Xbox Softmodding Tool

  1. Navigate to the Xbox Softmodding Tool GitHub and select "Clone or Download" > Download ZIP. Right click the ZIP and extract it.
  2. Double click Build XISO.bat. This will generate an ISO file named Xbox Softmodding Tool Extras Disc.iso.
  3. Open ImgBurn and select "Write Image File to Disc". Under the Source section, click the folder icon and select Xbox Softmodding Tool Extras Disc.iso. Change Write Speed to the lowest speed you can choose (it will likely automatically jump up to a higher number when you burn, this is okay), and then press the large icon in the bottom left to begin the burn.
  4. When the disc is finished burning, eject it and put it into your Xbox. Launch the disc, if it didn't automatically. Navigate to Advanced Menu > Enter Menu > Upgrade > Old Softmods and press A. Carefully read and answer the prompts.
    • If your LED changes color, this is normal.
  5. When the upgrade is finished, remove the disc. Your dashboard will have been overwritten with the latest UnleashX.
    • By default, the dashboard uses a white skin instead of the default UnleashX skin. You can change this under System > Skins.

Without a disc drive

If your disc drive is broken but you do have the option to upload via FTP, you can use the "Installer Variants" (direct link) in Rocky5's Google Drive.

  1. Download the 'Quick Upgrade' installer variant from the link above to your PC and unzip it.
  2. Start your xbox with your current softmod, enable FTP and configure network settings (Read more).
  3. Upload the 'Quick Upgrade' to the root of the E partition.
  4. Using your current softmod, start E:/Quick Upgrade/default.xbe and carefully follow the instructions on screen.
  5. Don't forget to FTP/copy the backed up EEPROM back to your PC.

Do note:

  • The 'Quick Upgrade' needs to specifically be in the root of the E partition. So that the 'default.xbe' is located in the "E:\Quick Upgrade\" folder.
  • The 'Quick Update' only works for a previous version of Rocky5's softmod, you will specifically need Quick Upgrade.
  • If you have both 'Quick Upgrade' and 'Quick Update' on the E partition, for some reason it will only boot the 'Quick Update' (so temporarily (re)move one of them).
