Xbox:USB Device Compatibility List

Below is a list of USB storage devices tested to work as Xbox "memory cards" through a USB to controller port adapter. Note that such devices must be 4GB or less. SD cards (inserted into USB card readers, even including PSPs!) have a very high success rate. Rooted Android phones running Xbox:DriveDroid to produce a virtual disk are also acceptable.

If it recognises an attached storage device, the Xbox:Microsoft Dashboard will show an image of a memory card alongside the main console when entering the Memory screen. If the device hasn't already been formatted to the FATX file system format used by the console, the dashboard will automatically wipe it and then flash up a message indicating that it has done so.

Unrecognised devices are usually ignored, although some will cause the display to rapidly flash so long as they're plugged in. In some rare cases, preformatting a USB drive to FAT32 (eg by entering FORMAT F: /fs:FAT32 in Windows Command Prompt, with F: being the corresponding drive letter) or FATX (eg by using Xbox:FATXplorer) may help. Plugging the device in before powering the Xbox on may also increase the chances that it will be recognized.
