The Sega Game Gear is an 8-bit handheld console from the fourth generation of video game consoles. The console launched in Japan on October 6th, 1990 followed by North America and Europe (April 1991). The Game Gear featured similar hardware to Master System bit sported 4096 colors in its palette versus the contemporary Genesis's 512 colors. The system could be powered by a power adapter run for three to five hours on 6 AA batteries — a much shorter amount of time than the Game Boy's 30 hours on 4 AA batteries. An analog TV Tuner was released for the system to be able to watch television on the Game Gear, as well as a Gear to Gear Cable (VS Cable) which allowed for multiplayer gameplay using two Game Gears.
