The PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a handheld console from the seventh generation of video game consoles. The console launched in Japan on December 12th, 2004 followed by North America (March 24th, 2005), and Europe (September 1st, 2005). The console has built-in WiFi for internet and local wireless play and featured audio and video playback. It is the only handheld to use optical discs (UMD) for game and movie storage. Five different models of the PSP were released: the original PSP-1000; the PSP-2000 ("slim") — which featured many quality-of-life upgrades and could output YPbPr video to a television; the PSP-3000 ("brite") — which included an LCD screen with an increased color range, five times more contrast range, halved pixel response time, anti-glare, and a microphone but also introduced a visual interlacing issue due to the changed screen; the PSP Go — which adds Bluetooth connectivity for controllers and is half the size and weight of the original PSP due in part to the removal of the UMD drive; and lastly the PSP Street — a budget model that removes WiFi, stereo audio, and the microphone.
