Pretendo is an open-source Nintendo Network service replacement that aims to provide online services over the internet for the Wii U and 3DS family of systems, following the discontinuation of Nintendo Network on April 8, 2024.

Creating an Account

When you connect to Pretendo for the first time, you will be prompted to sign up for a PNID (which is similar to a Nintendo Network ID) through the Nintendo Network ID Settings section of System Settings. However, you cannot link your pre-existing Nintendo Network ID (NNID) with Pretendo, because your data is still held by Nintendo. Integration is highly unlikely as it could pose potential security risks.

Supported Games

Currently, 79% of progress has been made across games and services combined; however, this may be subject to change in the near future. For a complete list of supported titles, check out their progress page for any further updates.

Using Pretendo

Wii U

> Official Wii U Setup Guide <

There are 2 methods of accessing Pretendo on a Wii U. The first is by using a homebrew application called "Aroma Updater" to install a module named 'Inkay'. This method is recommended for the most compatibility in games and services such as Miiverse and Friend Lists. The second method can be done without modding your console, and that is done by changing the DNS settings of your current internet connection to access Pretendo. This method doesn't work with all services.

3DS

> Official 3DS Setup Guide <

You must have a modified system with the latest Luma3DS custom firmware installed using a supported method of choice; if not, refer to the CFW guide before proceeding. System transfers are not supported by the Pretendo Network. Attempting to perform a system transfer may lose your access from going online.
