Flashing an Xbox 360 DVD drive involves overwriting the DVD drive firmware with a custom firmware (usually LT3). This can be done with as little as a USB tool, but may range in materials and difficulty, up to and including drilling into a chip with a very small dremel tool (known as the "kamikaze" hack). The guide below is the best walkthrough for any model. Credit to Nomadic Dagger for the list of compatible chipsets for drive flashing.
Winchester DVD drives cannot be flashed!
- If you have a Lite-On 93450/83850 and it dies, you can buy a Lite-On 74850 and flash it with 93450/83850 firmware
- Original Xbox games have to be a 1;1 rip, as it must contain the full security sectors to run
- Special care needs to be taken for XGD3 games
