These are instructions for how to translate wiki pages into different languages. Please only participate if you are a native or fluent speaker of the language you are translating to.
How to Translate Pages
Feel free to create an example page to test the translation function.
- Choose a page that you would consider "finished", as it's best to translate once rather than multiple times as the page evolves.
- On the page you wish to translate, click "Edit source" and add these tags to the English text you wish to translate:
<languages/><translate> (English page contents) </translate>
- Save the page.
- This will now allow you to see the "Mark this page for translation" link near the top-right corner (not on the Edit page).
- Click "Mark this page for translation" and scroll to the very bottom and click "Mark this version for translation". Do not change any options.
- Again, near the top-right corner, click "Translate this page", then select the desired language from the drop-down menu, and translate it section by section. Avoid changing template names, such as {{Warning|Warning here.}} so that they remain working. Clicking "publish" on any section will immediately make that translated section live.
Reviewing Others Work
Visit Special:Translate ("Translate Dashboard" in the sidebar) and select the language you wish to review translations for. At the very bottom of the page, select "✔ Review". From here, you can click the checkmark on the right-hand side of any translation to mark it as reviewed. This has no effect to regular readers of the wiki, but marks translations and "double checked".
Notes
- Only people with the "Translator" role are able to translate pages or mark pages for translation.
- The English version must be the most up-to-date version. If you need to change the content, you will need to update the English page first.
- Once a single section has been translated, it creates a page like "Example Page/es" (es for Español), accessible by clicking the language in the "Other Languages" box at the bottom. If someone sets their language to Spanish for the site, it'll show a Spanish page if one is available, but will fall back to the English page otherwise.
- Pages that have been marked to be translated or are outdated will appear in the Special:Translate queue.
- When a page is updated, it will need to be re-marked to be translated. Sections that have been edited will be considered "outdated" until fixed, and new sections will be considered "untranslated".
- A page must first be created in English before translations can be made.
- If using an automatic translating service, please double check the output to verify the information is correct and uses proper grammar.
