The upscaler that the Wii U uses for Wii Mode introduces some colour issues, image distortion[1] and seemingly about 21 ms[2] (which is more than a frame) of input lag. It can't currently be disabled, even by setting the Wii U to a lower resolution or using the analog output - in fact, using analog output can make the issue worse, even outside of Wii mode[3].
