The 3DO has no copy protection built-in, meaning that any out-of-region game or homebrew CD-R can boot without performing any physical modification to the console. This section documents on how you can play your physical backups on your 3DO, provided that you own it and have previously created a backup.

Prerequisites

  • A 3DO model (any model is supported)
    • If your model has trouble reading burned media, try re-adjusting the laser pot. This will, however, requires knowledge of proper maintenance.
  • A computer with an appropriate CD-RW burner
  • ImgBurn
  • High-quality CD-R media (use either Taiyo Yuden (CMC) or Verbatim AZO media, do NOT use CD-RW discs)
  • A backup of your disc (can either be in BIN/CUE or ISO format, BIN/CUE recommended)

Burning your backup

  1. Open "ImgBurn" and select the icon labelled "Write image file to disc".
  2. Under the 'Source' tab, select the 'magnifying glass' icon, and open the disc image you wish to burn.
  3. Under 'Settings', set the write speed to either MAX or slow, whichever is preferred best.
  4. Click the "Burn" button to write the image to the disc.
