PassMe/NoPass
Natrium42 developed the PassMe, which was one of the first methods of booting unsigned code and retail DS games. A DS cartridge is attached to the device to bypass the copy protection, fooling the DS into thinking it has a legitimate gamecard inserted. The CPLD relocates the ARM7 and ARM9 addresses to slot-2 and sets an autoboot flag once you've passed the H&S warning, allowing DS code to be executed from the GBA slot. After the blowfish encryption was broken, "true" slot-1 flashcart solutions (such as "NoPass" devices) were developed that did not require a donor cartridge to use PassMe. Games developed with a later SDK will not run, and homebrew does require DLDI patching for your specific cart.
