36-inch 4:3 HD CRT released by Sony in 2004. This was the only 4:3 TV released by Sony in North America to use their SFP (Super Fine Pitch) Trinitron tube, which delivers greatly improved picture detail. It also has a digital ATSC tuner for receiving modern television broadcasts.

By default, this TV introduces input lag at all input resolutions. However, by setting "HDPT" to 0 in the service menu, 1080i and 540p signals are internally switched to bypass the digital scaling circuitry. This results in zero input lag for 1080i and 540p signals only.

The 36-inch XS955 model was dropped when Sony revised the DA-4 chassis in mid-2005, while the 30-inch and 34-inch models continued production. Therefore, all KD-36XS955 are capable of HDPT.
