Doc Brown is an ODE created by Deunan to revive FM Towns Marty. Marty drive is known to be made of paper and it is almost classified as a repair part due to the fragility of the original Marty disc drive. It is strongly recommended to use an ODE with Marty due to the fact that Marty's disc drive is always seeking even when Marty isn't loading or streaming CDDA audio. This strains the drive severely more compared to other systems.
To order Marty you must follow Deunan's blog very carefully. For this ODE you are required to show ownership of your Marty by taking a photo of the PCMIA card slot area which has the Marty serial number. This is intended to reduce scalping.
Official installation instructions for Docbrown can be found here.
- Ordering process is non-standard as it isn't a web store. You must subscribe to the WordPress blog and watch for updates when Deunan will have an order window for the specific ODE you need. Generally, he goes in a rotation and tries to sell each ODE twice a year.
- A strategy that works to secure one is: Once you know a date and time for an order window just set a reminder or alarm 5 minutes prior to the order window time. Just fill in your information and you'll get an email 2-3 days later for instructions.
File Formats Supported
- CDI
- CCD+IMG+SUB (Recommended format)
- MDS+MDF
- ISO (games with no audio tracks and homebrew)
Troubleshooting
- Solid LED light on power up is usually an indication of an incorrect SD card format. Docbrown only uses FAT32 format SD cards. ExFAT formatted SD cards will 100% leave the LED light on.
Limitations
- Firmware updates are only provided via direct email to the creator. However, there has been only 1 firmware update to address one game. As of 2022, there are no known compatibility issues.
- Doesn't support BIN/CUE image format
