Note that if you intend to migrate your game saves and installed content your replacement HDD must be larger than or equal to the size of the original HDD; and you will need an external HDD/USB storage device of larger or equal size tom transfer the backup data.
== Prerequisites ==
To upgrade/replace the HDD you will need:
# An external USB hard drive or flash drive at least 2GB in size, or large enough to store a backup of all your game saves/applications, if you want to keep them.
# A PS4 recovery firmware that matches the same version already installed, or newer. (You can get the latest  [https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/ps4/system-software/ from playstation.com])
# A computer that can connect to the USB drive
# A Phillips #1 screwdriver
# A 2.5" (laptop size) HDD or SSD large enough to store any content you are migrating from the old drive.

# Format the external drive as FAT32 or exFAT
== Backing up game saves and applications (Optional) ==
# On the PS4, navigate to Settings → System → Backup and Restore → Backup. The process may take hours to complete depending on your selections.
# Format the USB drive as FAT32 or exFAT
# Shut down the PS4 and unplug it.
# Connect the USB drive to the PS4
