ISO2GOD is a Windows utility originally written by KrK which allows conversion of original Xbox and Xbox 360 .isos into a Games on Demand container. This is useful, as playing game backups directly on the console requires either a GoD container or extracted files. GoD containers can be preferrable over extracted files, as they don't have compatability issues with some games and can be transferred quicker due to having a few large files instead of a large amount of tiny files. They will also be listed in the Microsoft dashboards, as they are the official format used for retail games from the marketplace.
The version linked in this wiki page is a modern decompilation by r4dius with additional quality of life improvements.
There is also a command-line equivilant called iso2god-rs which supports macOS and Linux distributions unlike the GUI tool.
Settings
Before using ISO2GOD, it is preferred to tweak a few settings to get the program set up for optimal GoD conversion.
Output Path
This is self explanatory. It is the folder your converted Games on Demand will go to after the ISO is converted.
Rebuild Path
If you decided to enable ISO rebuilding during a conversion, this is the folder where the rebuilt ISO will go.
The rebuilt ISOs are basically ISOs that remove all unnessary padding from the game, thus making it far smaller. However, they will no longer be valid as Redump archives and may introduce compatibility issues.
Options
These options allow you to change the default behavior when converting ISOs. For most games, these settings are optimal.
- Always save rebuilt ISO: Disabled
- Ask if rebuilt ISO should be saved: Disabled
- Auto-rename multi-disc games: Enabled
- Auto-browse when adding ISO: Disabled
FTP Transfer
You can optionally set up ISO2GOD to automatically transfer a converted GoD to an Xbox 360 through FTP.
When this option is enabled, make sure the console is on a homebrew dashboard with FTP enabled for the transfer to be successful.
Converting an Original Xbox ISO to XISO
ISO2GOD versions before 1.5.0 do not support "Redump" format ISOs for original Xbox titles due to them containing a video partition. Original Xbox titles can still be converted as GODs, but you either need to remove the video partition or convert them to "XISO" first, which is an ISO without the security sector or padding. XISOs will make the game take up much less space on your computer anyway.
The following is the easiest and most up-to-date method of extracting & rebuilding original Xbox games, as it uses xdvdfs and provides the user with a nice GUI.
Unfortunately, this will not work on non-Chromium web browsers like Safari or Firefox due to them not implimenting the file system API. Brave is a notible exception to this, but it can be easily turned back on with a flag.
Simply go to xiso.antangelo.com, click the tab labeled Pack
, and follow the on-screen instructions. (If you want save some extra space, select Compress
instead.)
Converting an Xbox 360 ISO or Xbox XISO to a Game on Demand
- Click the "Add ISO" button and select your desired game.
- You will see a pop-up window with options for the game. You can change the title details if desired, but it is preferred to remove all padding to save storage space on the PC or console.
- When converting ISOs for content installation discs (such as disc 1 for Watch_Dogs) you must either keep the padding of the ISO when converting to GOD, or just do a partial trim. The game will be broken if the padding is removed, like if it was ran from extracted files. Some other games may also be broken with a rebuilt Game on Demand, so if you are not sure, build the GoD with full padding.
- Click the "Add" button on the bottom right of the pop-up window.
- Once the desired games have been added to the queue, click the "Convert" button on the top. The program will begin to convert the ISO.
- Once the conversion has been completed, the Game(s) on Demand are ready to be played on Xenia or an RGH/JTAG Xbox 360. If the FTP Transfer was set up, they will already be on the console once they are marked as Uploaded.
- If the GoDs are manually being transferred to a console, you can put the converted game into the
Content\0000000000000000\
folder on either USB storage or the internal HDD so it can appear in the stock Microsoft dasboard.
