Having dumped GBA ROMs myself using a BennVenn device, I'm given to understand that there can be difficulties in determining the correct ROM sizes.

For example, just because a game has 16MB of data, that doesn't mean that it only attempts to access 16MB worth of cartridge space! A certain copy protection method involves having a game attempt to access areas outside of its actual used storage area - if it can't find whatever rubbish data it expects to be there, it assumes it's running from a "ROM file" and crashes. Such checks may be performed midway through a game, so as to make it harder for folks to realise they're creating bad dumps.

Basically, I'm curious as to how the link cable method handles this. Is the user expected to know the correct cut off points, or is the "GBA Link cable dumper" tool able to figure it out automatically somehow? Or does it just save out 32MB of data for everything, to be on the safe side? - Bomb Bloke (talk) 04:45, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
