The Generation 2/3/4 Power Supply

Look in the red boxes. Large failure points. Resistors and tantalum capacitors near these areas also like to break.


Very well known and the pain these cause is also well known. This PSU card is sideways like the Gen1 card.
As a result of this, the acid leaks sideways down the card and destroys a lot of resistors, the relay, etc. It is uncommon to clean, recap, and then the PSU card dies months later.
Hearing a whining sound when the computer is plugged in and not turned on is an indicator that the capacitor near the black relay has leaked badly.
