Tower Models and the All-in-one models
All Tower models and U* models use a unique and semi-proprietary FDD that integrates the 5V power between the ground pins. Pins 7,9 and 11 are 5V.
You can't fit a floppy emulator in a tower model as you need to create a custom adaptor.
More research is being conducted on this.
Desktops
The EA and Pentium type desktop models have normal 3-mode Shugart floppy drives. So adding a gotek with custom firmware or an HXC floppy emulator is plug-and-play.
All other desktops have the floppy drive 'molded' into the front plate and it's impossible to plug and play a FD emulator.
However they do have the EXT FDD port.
EXT FDD Port
The External Floppy Disk Drive port is a semi-proprietary SCSI-type port.
Research is being conducted on it.
It is possible to run a floppy emulator from it if you have:
- Fujitsu official external FD enclosure OR an FMR computer external FDD
- Install the Floppy emulator in said enclosure
However, it is very difficult to find them in the wild.
