Dual Shock Column

  • Does the dual shock column make sense as it is now? since analog mode per se is the same, that leaves the new protocol, including new-style vibration, as the differences from "red mode" --User:Ryccardo
    • I'd argue that "Dual Shock support" should either be removed (red LED = Dual Shock analog support), or rephrased/reworded to "Dual Shock Vibration" as opposed to SCPH-1150 Vibration (as they are very much not the same thing). However, Dual Shock vibration is such a common thing that I don't know if it even needs tracking, but it does need to be made clear that the vibration column is only for SCPH-1150, as already games are being added that do not cause the SCPH-1150 to vibrate. --User:Coldkennels
      • Made the suggested changes. I had originally put what I had as I had misread your spreadsheet. Derf (talk) 03:38, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
      • User:Ryccardo, do Destruction Derby RAW, Hot Wheels Turbo Racing, and Smurf Racer / 3-2-1 Smurf support SCPH-1150 vibration? Should be corrected if not since I changed the column to reflect the above. Derf (talk) 04:10, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
        • Yeah I don't have one (my cousin did and also had a PS1 with the RCA ports, was weird to see those coming from a 9000), changed back the vibration column --Ryccardo (talk) 09:12, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

Purpose of page

My understanding of this page - as it's based on the Google Sheet I started compiling a while back (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11xMh5utlKDukC3sWWQUUWPj4NSrJH5ouvOsHFRC_egs/) - is that this page is to track Analog Controller & Dual Analog support only, not games that only support the Dual Shock. Dual Shock support really doesn't need to be covered, as almost every game released from January 1998 supports it. It's the Dual Analog and Analog Controller that are woefully misunderstood and poorly documented and need a list like this.

As such, should the title and intro be changed to make this clearer? There's already games being added which aren't relevant to that controller, including ones I listed in a separate section on that sheet as already tested and proven to not work (see: V Rally 2, Tomb Raider 3, Tekken 3, etc.); there's even games on this page now which don't support *any* analog control systems (Tomb Raider)!

Hmm, I think both are useful to document (there are probably people, the opposite of me, that absolutely prefer the sticks) - and for one, The Smurfs (1999) has no analog support :) --Ryccardo (talk) 18:36, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
I think you kinda missed my point: first, by adding games that only support the Dual Shock protocol, you're going to end up with a truly massive page; if we take just the European/PAL releases from the Wikipedia release list, sort by release date, and delete everything that was released pre-DualShock, you end up with 921 games. The vast majority of games released post-DualShock do support it; you'd be better off creating a list of games that don't, as they're the exception rather than the rule.
On top of that, adding in DualShock-only games will render this page completely useless to users of the original Analog Joystick - as the so-called "green mode" games will be lost in the mix - and cause endless amounts of confusion as to what games support that controller. This was part of the problem with Wikipedia's list for the Analog Joystick (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Analog_Joystick) until I stepped in to tidy that up. --User:Coldkennels
Sorry, there was massive confusion on my part. My understanding was that "red mode" on the SCPH-1150 / SCPH-1180 was a completely different compatibility set than Dual Shock, but it appears that is wrong (although there are a few games that won't work with a Dual Shock). So the "red LED" column should be removed, right?
I think we should keep the description of the Dual Shock so people can easily see the differences right there, but maybe put a warning indicating that the compatibility lists on this page are NOT for Dual Shock, and link to a page for DualShock compatibility.
I think it's important to list games that aren't supported at all (V Rally 2, Tomb Raider 3, Tekken 3) including games that don't support any analog (Tomb Raider). Yes, the list will balloon, but it will prevent people from re-checking the same games over and over and give a complete picture of what games have actually been checked.
To simplify things, I think we want:
    • To clarify the page is not related to Dual Shock.
    • Remove the "red LED" column
    • On a separate DualShock-only page have:
      • A list of games that don't support DualShock
      • A list of games that only work with DS1 or DS2.
Thoughts? Derf (talk) 05:44, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
the so-called "green mode" games will be lost in the mix - sounds like a great case for the wikitable sortable (maybe after adding a non-color-based supplement to the templates)? :) --Ryccardo (talk) 20:12, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
