Xbox Content Archive Tool (XCAT) is a utility that runs directly on an Xbox console to assist in finding unarchived DLC and other lost content. When run the application will scan the Xbox hard drive for any content that has yet to be archived and upload it directly to the servers of the XCAT Team for later analysis, sorting, and archival.

Using XCAT

  1. Transfer the XCAT XBE file to the console via FTP, memory card, or DVD
  2. Ensure the console has internet access
  3. Run the XBE and follow the prompts
  4. Depending on the amount of data stored on the hard disk it may take an hour or more to scan and perform any uploads

What content will XCAT process?

XCAT will look for unique content in the following paths:

  • E:\TDATA\
  • E:\UDATA\
  • E:\apps\
  • E:\games\
  • C:\
  • E:\
  • X:\
  • Y:\
  • Z:\

Any unique files will be processed and uploaded for sorting and archival.

But why is XCAT looking at C:\ and the cache drives? The XCAT team is looking for more than DLC. Homebrew dashboard skins, Xbox Live MOTD files, long lost game mod packs... A lot of community-made content is now lost to time, but there is a chance it could be found!

Privacy Disclaimer

Alright, so here's the deal: XCAT will scan your Xbox hard disk and may upload any unarchived files that are found, without user input. If there is content on your console that you do NOT want uploaded, exit this application now.

If you choose to continue, you are agreeing to authorize the XCAT team to possess and distribute any files uploaded from your Xbox console and are confirming that the content of those files do not contain unlawful content.

TL;DR XCAT will slurp up everything it sees as a unique file that has yet to be archived.

Troubleshooting and Additional Information

XCAT may list a number of files failed to process while scanning and uploading files. After XCAT has finished it's scan and upload of all other files, it will retry the files it originally failed to process. If all files are successfully uploaded XCAT will display a Processing Complete and Thank You end screen with the option of pressing the A button to restart the Xbox. If XCAT fails to upload any files it will prompt the user to press A to attempt to upload the files again. If the files fail to upload after reattempts, exit XCAT or restart the xbox and run it again.
