XBSlink

XBSlink is a system link tunneling application for consoles that allows you to play with other users on the Internet as if you were on the same LAN, similar to X-Link Kai. Any System Link enabled game can be played online through peer-to-peer (P2P) connection or through the XBSlink cloud. The benefit of P2P connection is that it does not rely on online servers to be up and running in order to play. XBSlink users can play with X-Link Kai users if the game host has both applications running. Official usage instructions can be found here.

Console Setup

Unless you have a wireless card capable of entering promiscuous mode, it is required that the PC you are running XBSlink on will need to be connected to your router with an ethernet cable. Even in the case where you can use wireless, it is best to use a pure ethernet connection to reduce latency. Port Forwarding

Before you can use XBSLink, you will need to either enable UPnP in your router configuration page if it is supported, and set the XBSlink settings to use UPnP (default) OR you can forward the required port by assigning a static IP address in your Xbox settings and by forwarding port 31415 (UDP). Using XBSlink

Using Clouds

XBSlink clouds are the easiest way to play games online. Click 'load' to the right of the cloud list URL to retrieve a list of active clouds, double click on them to join. If they require passwords, you can enter them at the bottom of the window. You also can create clouds this way, by entering the name of your cloud, the maximum number for people you want to be able to join, and an optional password.

Using Manual Connections
  1. In the settings tab, select the correct adapter as capture device and select your local IP address.
    1. If your router supports UPnP, turn on the associated option under settings
  2. Press “Start Engine”, XBSlink will now listen for incoming request to join another player or XBSlink network, enter a host in the “Remote Host” field and send an announce.
    1. XBSlink will show info on all discovered nodes. If the ping time to a node stays “N/A”, the communication to this node can not be established properly.
  3. Start a System Link game on your Xbox or join another player's game.

Troubleshooting

Firewall and Antivirus Issues

Certain software firewalls or antiviruses (specifically Zone Alarm) may block XBSlink from running properly, or disconnect you when you attempt to join a game. You can fix this by adding XBSlink as an exception in your firewall or antivirus, or by disabling them while playing.

Can't See Other Players

This may be due to incorrect network setup, port 31415 (UDP) not being successfully forwarded, or a firewall blocking your network traffic.

XBSlink Crashes

An incorrectly forwarded port can cause this. Double check your port settings, or if you are using UPnP, try setting it manually.

XBSlink Can't Detect your Xbox

Try entering your Xbox's MAC address into XBSlink's properties. You can also try restarting your router if you had changed your network layout.

Issues with Game Performance

If you have problems with some games, you can try to enable the “Advanced Forwarding of Broadcasts” option under settings. XBSlink will try to recognize more packets on the network. Unrelated packets on your network may also be transmitted along with your game traffic.
