Below are the effects of enabling the different DIP switches. Information from the Neo Geo Development Wiki.
For an at-home single-machine setup, all DIPs should be set to OFF except DIP 2 (if freeplay is desired).
| Switch | Effect when ON |
|---|---|
| 1 | Boot into Neo Geo:Test Mode. |
| 2 | Number of coin chutes (1 or 2 Euro & Japan, 2 or 4 for USA). |
| 3 | Enable Mahjong controller. |
| 4 | Number of linked consoles for multiplayer (binary). |
| 5 | Number of linked consoles for multiplayer (binary). |
| 6 | Enable communication for multiplayer. |
| 7 | Enable freeplay. Credits are no longer needed to start games. |
| 8 | Pauses the game via software. Can be used in the Neo Geo:Pause Button Mod. |
