Normally, Developer Mode on the Xbox One has limited privileges. However, with certain exploits, an admin account can be added to the console. This allows for a few extra things, like more access to the partitions on the internal HDD with SSH and SFTP.

All instructions provided from their respective pages from the Xbox One Research Wiki.

Prerequisites

  • Any model or revision of an Xbox One or Xbox Series console with access to Developer Mode
  • A computer or virtual machine running Windows connected to the same network as the console

Instructions

  1. Make sure the console is in Developer Mode.
  2. Download the latest build of Artifice and extract it to a folder on the computer's desktop. It will not work if it is stored somewhere that isn't the desktop.
  3. Run the Artifice executable and add the console's IP address to the app.
    • If the console has authentication enabled for remote acces, Artifice will ask you for a username and password. Make sure to input the correct credentials.
  4. Click Start, and let the app perform the exploit. It will take a minute.
  5. Once done, the console will have an admin account you can SSH into. The default username and password of the account are both admin.
