Description

The Sony GDM-F500 is a 21" class PC CRT Monitor from Sony FD Trinitron brand. Built on a modified Sony N3 chassis, designated N3P, this model premiered the FD Trinitron "Flat Display" technology (with the former models being only vertically flat) in it's size class. At the same time, GDM-F500, along with its 19" counterpart, featured the most advanced aperture grille tube of its time, with 0.22mm dot pitch. This tube was then carried over to the facelift model GDM-F500R and also to the successor model GDM-F520.

Notes

As the original N3 chassis was not originally developed for the FD Trinitron screen, the F500 was quite an afterthought. Model was plagued with reliability issues right from the start, with geometry anomalies and loss of focus as a common symptoms. The result and a solution to this was a development of a new chassis designation G1, on which the facelift model GDM-F500R was built. The failed or problematic F500 units submitted for RMA were exchanged for the new facelift model later on.
