34-inch widescreen HD CRT released by Sony in 2004. This was Sony's first North American market TV to use their SFP (Super Fine Pitch) Trinitron tube, which delivers greatly improved picture detail. It also has a digital ATSC tuner for receiving modern television broadcasts.

By default, this TV introduces input lag at all input resolutions. However, by setting "HDPT" to 0 in the service menu, 1080i and 540p signals are internally switched to bypass the digital scaling circuitry. This results in zero input lag for 1080i and 540p signals only.

The standard version of this TV features an anti-glare sheet on the tube. This can be removed if it is scratched/damaged. There is also another version of this TV, model KD-34XBR960N, which did not come with the anti-glare sheet from the factory.

Sony later released the XS955 series (KD-30XS955, KD-34XS955, and KD-36XS955) which have a similar appearance and also use SFP tubes.
