You can play game backups by either using a flash card or by using TWilight Menu.

Flash Cards

Place your backups into a folder in an FAT32 formatted SD card with the cards needed firmware into the DS. Insert the flash card into your DS and select a game.

TWlight Menu

Place your backups into "roms/nds" on your SD card. Load up TWilight Menu on your DS and select a game.
