The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) is a 16-bit console from the fourth generation of video game consoles. The console was launched as the Super Famicom in Japan on November 21st, 1990 before later being released in North America (August 23rd, 1991) and Europe (June 1992) as the SNES. A satellite modem addon — the Satellaview — was released in 1995 with the ability to play games broadcast wirelessly and free magazines. A handful of games could be played online through the XBAND service in Japan and the United States.
