This page describes the many different environment loaders and the different ways to mod your Wii U.

Aroma

Aroma is the most modern and fully featured softmod for the Wii U. It differs greatly from Tiramisu and Haxchi by not requiring the Homebrew Launcher to launch Homebrew apps, as it installs a plugin which puts apps directly on the Wii U's HOME Menu.

The basic feature set of Aroma can be easily extended by the use of plugins. Plugins are run at all times when the Wii U is booted and greatly extend the functionality of the Wii U console. Plugins include things like launching games region free, pairing game pads region free, running a FTP server in the background and as mentioned before putting Homebrew apps directly on the Wii U menu.

The official Aroma website and wiiu.hacks.guide has instructions on how to install Aroma on one's Wii U.

Tiramisu

Tiramisu has similar functionality to Haxchi but doesn't require the use of a DS game. It requires one to use the Homebrew Launcher to launch different Homebrew apps, just like Haxchi.

It is recommended to install Aurora first as it's more fully featured and includes EnvironmentLoader. If you need to use Tiramisu for legacy homebrew apps, you can learn how to install Tiramisu with Aroma at the end of wiiu.hacks.guide.

Haxchi

Haxchi is an older method of Wii U modding and requires one to own a Nintendo eShop DS game and requires the Homebrew Launcher to launch Homebrew apps. eShop games cannot be purchased after the 27th of March 2023 thus making this way of modding impossible after that date.

If a Wii U still has access to a legally owned DS game, this guide can be followed to learn how to install Haxchi and Coldboot Haxchi on a Wii U.
