Unlike the Xbox 360, the Xbox One does not allow transferring of game saves to an external USB drive. The only way to make a copy of a game save on an up-to-date console is to sync it to the cloud to another Xbox device.

However, if your Xbox One is on a operating system version earlier than 10.0.15063.2022 (released 5/5/2017), your system can use the Xbox One Symbolic Link Exploit which allows you to read/write to mounted volumes that aren't available in normal file browsers on the Xbox One. This allows you to access your game saves and back them up, modify them, or restore them.
