CRT:Mivar X series remotes

From ConsoleMods Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Mivar X series of remotes is used on all of their later CRT TVs with a flip-down front cover and no numerical LCD program display (use the TC3 for those). The X4 was later remade with today's customary round rubber buttons instead of the classic membrane with individual plastic keycaps. It's also forward compatible with the Y series used on early LCDs, which adds aspect ratio buttons.

They use the obscure RECS 80 system in non-modulated mode. DIY universal remote fan? Download an IrScrutinizer database here!

The X2, X3, and X4 are exactly the same electronically (including the removed brightness/saturation buttons): the apparently rearranged buttons are still in the same place and only the implementation in the TV's firmware has been changed. The X1 is instead an X2 with different button order.

There's also an X2 SERVIZI, currently undocumented, with most buttons replaced by PIP and hotel mode (volume and/or programming lock) controls.

General usage

Mostly self explanatory, but:

Programming channels

Select the desired slot, press the lone P/C or Funz button on the TV, select RF channel with any green buttons, press MEM twice.

Programming default values

9-button models: MEM, make changes while blinking, MEM. (Volume control on TV autosaves.)

6-button models: Adjust with on-screen controls (press Funz on remote or hold it down on TV), MEM twice (can get away with once on later models).

Sleep timer

Hold Stop until "T" appears and press it again as desired. Can be saved on some models.

S-Video

On dual SCART models, use the green buttons on the TV to go below program 1 and choose between AV2 (composite) or AVS (S-Video). Save to remote's AV button with MEM twice.

Teletext contrast

Use the green buttons on the TV and save in the usual way...

PIP

  • Riv: on/off
  • All: zoom
  • Canc: move
  • Stop: freeze frame

Service mode 1

On the TV, press the blue Funz button and volume down on 6-key models, or volume down and the leftmost P/C on 9-key models, or short "SERVIZIO" on the PCB to ground, until "S" appears. The 14M3/16M1 have no on-screen controls of any kind and you will need a screwdriver (and a remote with brightness/color buttons) for those.

Old type

Press Ora and AV to move through memory of the video/stereo/PIP processors (as detected by the CPU), and L1/L2, Muto, V/M, Stop, Canc, TV/TVD, All, Riv to flip bits. Refer to these chips' datasheets for information.

New type

Press Ora and AV to move through the menu, and Stop & Riv to adjust. An one-liner description is available, but still do pay attention to the chips' datasheets.
