Hello,

I have noticed recently that many of your recent edits, particularly ones relating to the What is 240p? page seem to go against commonly accepted knowledge regarding 240p and the edit summaries you provided were not particularly useful in determining why they were "correct". I would urge you to provide credible references when making potentially controversial edits, instead of simply stating that the information is "correct" without any explanation as to why.

In addition, I noticed you attempted to edit the RetroTINK-4K system settings page to remove the statement that the PS2 outputs 1080i. In fact, there are a handful of PS2 games which can output 1080i, including Gran Turismo 4 which is one of the most popular and best-selling games on the system.

We want to ensure that this site provides accurate information, and that we should strive to provide as much credible references and sources as possible. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.

that's questionable.

What is questionable? Can you elaborate?

Pac-Mario64 (talkcontribs)

The PS2 outputting actual 1080i is actually hard because it only has 4MB of VRAM.

ApolloBoy (talkcontribs)

Regardless, it still outputs 1080i and I can tell from using my RetroTINK-5X that it is indeed outputting video at that resolution. Also remember that 1080i is an interlaced resolution, not progressive like 1080p is, so even then it's not actually outputting a full 1,080 lines of resolution.

It's becoming clear to me that you don't really understand the subject matter of the pages you've been editing, and the edits that you have made thus far haven't been productive. Please do not attempt to insert incorrect information in the What is 240p? page again or further action will be taken, including autorejection of your edits.

The 1080i mode in GT4 for the PS2 is fake.

It's outputting 720x540 upscaled to 1080i. (not 1080p.)

Bomb Bloke (talkcontribs)

You're understanding that every 1080i refresh consists of 540 rows, right? With two refreshes required to construct a fully interlaced frame of 1080 rows? We're not talking about 1080p, where every refresh would need to include 1080 rows.

To be clear: it's not that two-cycles-per-frame is a GT4-specific behaviour, or even a PS2-specific behaviour. It's simply the way that interlaced display modes function across the board. You specifically require 540 rows per refresh in order to produce a 1080i signal.

Also keep in mind that the construction method of the source rows doesn't matter - the point is that the actual signal that comes out of the PS2 can be 1080i. Whether or not "upscaling" is used to achieve it is irrelevant.

I'm outta here.
