There are a few ways to update your Vita / PSTV.

If you have non-retail hardware, go to Vita:Manually Updating a Development Kit.

Over the Internet

To perform an update with the internet, open the Settings app, scroll down to System Update, and select Update Using Wi-Fi. Your Vita automatically checks over the internet whether you have the latest version of the system software. If there is an update file for a later version, it is downloaded to the system. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

Once finished, you can continue to Vita:Getting Started if you wish to install custom firmware.

Over USB (PSTV)

  1. On the USB flash drive, create folders for saving the update file. Using a computer, create a folder named "PSVITA" on the USB flash drive. Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE".
  2. Download the update file, and save it in the "UPDATE" folder you created in step 1. Save the file with the file name "PSVUPDAT.PUP".
  3. Turn off the power of your PS TV system completely.
  4. Press and hold the Power button on your PS TV system for at least seven seconds to turn on the power so the system starts in safe mode.
  5. Connect an OEM controller using a USB cable, and then press then PS button.
  6. Select Update System Software > Update from USB Storage Device.
  7. Connect the USB flash drive that the update file is saved on to your PS TV system, and except the on-screen prompts.
  8. Once finished, you can continue to Vita:Getting Started if you wish to install custom firmware.

Using a PS3

This method requires a PlayStation 3 on firmware 4.00 or newer.

  1. Connect your PS Vita system to the PS3 system using a USB cable. All open applications must be closed, and User must be selected.
  2. On your Vita system, select Settings > Start > System Update > Update by Connecting to a PS3 system. Your PS Vita automatically checks over the Internet whether you have the latest version of the system software.
    • If there is an update file for a later version, it is downloaded to the system.
  3. Follow the screen instructions to complete the update.
  4. Once finished, you can continue to Vita:Getting Started if you wish to install custom firmware.

Using a PC

  1. On your Windows computer, install Qcma using the appropriate file.
    • Qcma will ask you To pick a driver, Its recommended to try a random one, if it doesn't work try another by reinstalling the program.
  2. Once Qcma is installed, locate the "Show Hidden icons" tile on the bottom-left of your screen. Right-click and open settings.
  3. Locate the "Updates / Web Content" Part of the settings. Ensure that that path exists by navigating to C:\Users\<User>\Documents\PSV updates\. If it is not there, create the Folder and name it as such (case sensitive).
  4. Place the .PUP File into the PSV Updates Folder. Ensure that the .PUP file is named PSP2UPDAT.PUP in all uppercase.
  5. In the Other Tab, enable "Offline Mode" and "Ignore Local File Psp2-Updatelist.xml".
  6. Set "User Version Update" to Custom, then set the "Custom PS Vita Version" field to the proper value (3.75 = 03.735.000).
