Normally, PSP consoles will not allow you to format SD cards that are bigger than 128 GB with the button built into the system settings. However, by using a zzBlank image and fomatting the card on a computer first, it is possible to make 200 GB or larger SD cards work in the console.
This tutorial can also be used for formatting 64 GB or 128 GB SD cards with a more optimal cluster size for faster file operations.
Requirements
- zzBlank.img
- Rufus
- Memory Stick directories/files from a PSP formatted card
- Memory Stick to microSD adapter
- 64 GB or larger microSD card
Instructions
- Connect the desired microSD card to your Windows computer.
- Open windiskimager32. It should automatically detect your SD card.
- Select the zzBlank file and write it to the card. Once it has finished writing, close the program.
- Open Rufus. This is needed to format the SD card as FAT32.
- Select the following options in Rufus:
- Boot selection: Non bootable
- File system: FAT32
- Cluster Size: 64 kilobytes
- You can optionally disable the option "Create extended label and icon files" if the default Rufus icon is undesirable.
- Click the Start button in order to format the card. Once finished, exit Rufus.
- Extract previously mentioned the PSP directories from a donor memory card onto the freshly formatted SD card.
- You can now safely eject the SD card and try using it on a PSP handheld. If everything was done right, the memory card should appear as normal.
