Nintendon't (stylized "Nintendont" or "NINTENDONT") is a homebrew tool for the Nintendo Wii. Its main purpose is to load Nintendo GameCube (GCN) games in "1:1" ISO format.

It is not an emulator, as it doesn't need to be due to the Wii and Gamecube sharing the same architecture.

Installation

You'd install Nintendon't like you would any Wii homebrew application.

  • Obtain the application itself from here.
  • Make a /Nintendont folder inside the /apps folder on the root of your storage device.
  • Extract the files from the above archive into the folder created into the previous step
  • After this is completed, eject your storage device from your computer and insert it into your Wii. Nintendon't should now show up in the Homebrew Channel.

Nintendon't can also be installed using the Homebrew Browser.

Post-Installation

Because you just installed Nintendon't, you probably won't have any games to load.

With that, you need legal ways to obtain them.

This is where another software comes in: CleanRip by emukidid/emu_kidid.

Backing up games using CleanRip

Installation of CleanRip

Install this app as you would any other Nintendo Wii homebrew application:

  • Obtain CleanRip from its releases page.
  • Copy /apps from the above archive into your storage device, allowing it to merge files.
Exclamation-circle-fill.svgIf you are a Chromebook user, you will have to copy the /CleanRip folder to your pre-existing /apps folder, as copying /apps from the archive unavoidably makes an /apps (1) folder.


  • After the safe ejection from your computer and inserting your storage device into your Wii, CleanRip shall now show up in the HomeBrew Channel.

Backing up games with said app

Upon first boot of CleanRip, you will be presented with a screen saying the following: “Disclaimer: The author is not responsible for any damages that could occur to any removable device used within this program”

Though this is important, just wait until it tells you to press the A button to continue, and then do what it tells you.

  • “Enable checksum calculations? (Enabling will add about 3 minutes)”

Choose either Yes or No. It is unknown what this does.

  • “Please select the device type: USB or Front SD”
  • “Please select the filesystem type: FAT or NTFS”

After clicking on your device’s file system, insert a USB/SD device of the respective file system.

  • “Insert a GC/Wii DVD Disc”

Insert a GCN disc. After doing this, click A and the disc will initialize. Then it will ask

  • “Is this an unlicensed datel disc? (Will attempt auto-detect if no)”

And then

  • “Remember settings? Will only ask again next session”

After going through all the prompts, your disc will be dumped to the root of your storage device. Exit CleanRip afterwards.

After-backup

After backing up your GCN disc, it should be on the root of your storage device along with its BCA dump.

It should be named according to its “Game ID” (e.g. /GM2E8P.iso).

In order for it to be compatible with Nintendon’t, it has to be in a /games folder on the root of your storage device. Simply move it there. The BCA dump is not needed to run the game, as it is not being ran off a disc.

Running the previously dumped games

Running games in Nintendon’t is as simple as clicking what storage device it is on, and clicking on the name of the game you want to play. But remember this:

Exclamation-triangle-fill.svgIf you want to run a game with Nintendon’t, it cannot be compressed. It has to be “1:1” (in other words, a full 1.4GB dump of your game, including empty space). It is unknown why.


Exclamation-circle-fill.svgYou’ve probably read somewhere that all your games need to be named /game.iso in order to run with Nintendon’t. In recent revisions, this is not true. They can be named anything you want.


Integration with USB loaders

Some USB loaders such as WiiFlow Lite and CFG have options to run GCN games using a detected copy of Nintendon’t in the /apps/Nintendont folder. This can come in handy if you have either of the two as an autoboot in Priiloader.

These loaders seem to have more settings (specifically what configuration to launch the game with) than Nintendon’t itself does.
