The Magnavox Odyssey is the first commercial home video game console. The console was launched in North America in September 1972, and then in the UK and the rest of Europe by 1974. Created by Ralph Baer — the pioneering "Father of Video Games" — the console bridged the worlds of table-top board games by relying on the use of dice, paper money, and physical overlays that stuck to the screen. It also sported the first light gun peripheral and the game Table Tennis which was the inspiration for Pong.
The console also spawned the Magnavox Odyssey and Philips Odyssey series of consoles, indicated with a number such as "Magnavox Odyssey 100".
