The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is an 8-bit console from the third generation of video game consoles. The console was launched as the Family Computer (Famicom) in Japan on July 15th, 1983 before later being released in North America (October 18th, 1985) and Europe (September 1st, 1986) as the NES. A floppy drive add-on — the Family Computer Disk System (FDS) — was released in 1986 in Japan.
