PlayStation Portable 1000 (2004-2007)

Commonly referred to as the "fat" PSP, this is the original model.

PlayStation Portable 2000 (2007-2008)

Known as the "slim", a smaller and lighter version of the PSP that was manufactured from 2007 to 2008. It utilizes a 1200mAh battery as opposed to the 1800mAh battery of the 1000. The RAM was doubled from 32MB to 64MB, with the extra being utilized as a cache to speed up loading times. The extra RAM is beneficial to certain homebrew. A video out capability was also added, with component or composite cables available. PSP games, however, cannot be output over composite video out.

PlayStation Portable 3000 (2008-2014)

Often referred to as the "brite", the 3rd version of the PSP. It has a screen with more colours and better contrast than the previous versions. The home bar buttons were made to be more "oval" shaped rather than the previous "bowl" shape. The "HOME" button was replaced with the PlayStation logo and the Sony logo was moved to the left. PSP games can be output over composite video out.

PlayStation Portable N1000 (Go) (2009-2011)

A much more compact version of the PSP, it lacks the UMD Drive and comes with 16GB of built-in eMMC memory. Instead of the previous "bar" form factor, it uses a sliding form factor, with the screen sliding up to reveal the buttons. It is the only PSP model to have Bluetooth connectivity functionality, and it can have a DualShock 3 connected and utilized for control. It also uses Memory Stick M2 "Micro" for storage expansion rather than the Memory Stick (PRO) Duo utilized by the previous models.

PlayStation Portable E1000 (Street) (2011-2014)

Designed as a "budget" option, this model has no wireless connectivity. The battery cannot be swapped as with the 1000/2000/3000, and it is the lowest capacity of all models. The note and display buttons were removed. This system has a "matte" plastic look instead of the glossy look of the previous models. It was only released in Europe.
