HENlo is a WebKit and kernel exploit chain for the PlayStation Vita developed by TheFl0w. It was later developed into a fully fledged user accessible jailbreak with henlo_jb by SKGLeba and Yoti.

By default, the jailbreak provided by henlo_jb will not be "persistant". This means that if the console is ever fully shut down or rebooted, the jailbreak will need to be ran again through the web browser. However, installing Vita:Ensō (either manually or through VitaDeploy) will make the jailbreak persistant, essentially giving the console custom firmware.

Accessing HENkaku & Installing VitaDeploy

  1. In the console's LiveArea, access the web browser. Navigate to `http://jailbreak.psp2.dev`.
  2. Open the web browser settings. Make sure that Javascript is enabled, and clear your cookies and search history. This is to ensure the jailbreak has the highest possible stability.
  3. Press the buttons named Unlock my Vita, and Unlock. This will take you to a black screen with some text.
  4. Press Cross on the options for Install henkaku (the jailbreak itself) and Install VitaDeploy (handy homebrew utility). Once you are finished, scroll down to Exit and press Cross to go back to the LiveArea.
    • If you have a PCH-1xxx series PS Vita without a Sony memory card, you will instead need to use the option Replace NEAR with VitaDeploy. As the name suggests, it replaces the defunct NEAR application with VitaDeploy.
    • If you have a PCH-1005 or PCH-1105 PS Vita (which is a South Korean OLED console) without a Sony memory card, you will unfortnately need some sort of memory card to proceed, as South Korean consoles do not feature the NEAR application. Luckily, HENlo allows you to mount an SD2Vita adapter as an internal memory card. Simply format the card on a PC first, plug a microSD card into the adapter, insert the adapter into your console, and click the option Exit and mount sd2vita as ux0. From here, you can just go back to the jailbreak.psp2.dev website and follow the Step 4 instructions.
  5. With HENkaku installed, open the Settings application. There will now be a section for Henkaku's settings.
  6. Enable the check box for Unsafe Homebrew. This will allow homebrew apps to have extra permissions. You may also want to change the spoofed firmware to 3.74 if you plan on downgrading the firmware and still want to access PSN.
  7. Exit the settings application.
    • If you have a PCH-1xxx Vita without a memory card, you should ideally create an internal memory card so you have the ability to install games and more applications while additonally having backup storage to fall back upon.

Adding an Internal Memory card to a PCH-1xxx

  1. Once VitaDeploy has been installed, open the app. Go to the Miscellaneous tab and click Create an internal memory card
  2. Select the desired partition configuration. For most average users, it is recommended to use the PCH-2xxx's storage configuration.
  3. Restart the PS Vita. You should now have a 1 GB internal memory card.

If you previously accessed VitaDeploy by replacing the NEAR app, you can go back to the jailbreak.psp2.dev website to restore the NEAR app back to the console. Then, you can install VitaDeploy to your memory card.

Installing Henkaku Ensō with VitaDeploy

Once you have installed VitaDeploy, you can easily make the jailbreak persistant by using its preset function of downgrading (or reinstalling if you're already on 3.65) the firmware to 3.65 with YAMT, Vita:Ensō, and many handy plugins.

  1. Launch the newly installed VitaDeploy application.
  2. Tap Install a different OS
  3. The application will start to install a few packages. Once that step is finished, follow the on-screen instructions.
    • Do not let the console go in sleep mode during this step. If the console happened to do so, hold the power button to fully turn off the device and install HENkaku from henlo_jb again.
  4. Once the firmware has been installed, you will be able to see that the console was downgraded to 3.65 firmware with HENkaku installed in the Settings app.
  5. You can now follow Vita:Recommended Setup to know what to do next.
