Ci-dessous se trouve une liste de périphériques USB de stockage testés en tant que "cartes mémoire" de Xbox via un adaptateur de port manette. Veuillez noter que ce type de périphérique doit rester sous les 4 Go de capacité. Les cartes SD (insérées dans des lecteurs de cartes USB, incluant entre autres la PSP !) ont un très bon taux de succès. Les téléphones Android rootés Xbox:DriveDroid fournissant un disque virtual sont également acceptables.

Lorsqu'il reconnaît un périphérique de stockage attaché, le Dashboard Microsoft affiche l'image d'une carte mémoire le long de la console principale en entrant dans l'écran Mémoire. Si le périphérique n'a pas déjà été formaté dans le système de fichiers FATX utilisé par la console, le dashboard procédera automatiquement à un effacement puis affichera un message indiquant le succès de l'opération.

Les appareils non reconnus sont habituellement ignorés, bien que certains d'entre eux causent des flashs rapides à l'écran tant qu'ils restent branchés. Dans de rares cas, préformater un disque USB en FAT32 (par exemple en entrant FORMAT F: /fs:FAT32 dans l'Invite de Commandes Windows, F: étant la lettre de disque correspondante) ou FATX (par exemple en utilisant Xbox:FATXplorer) peut s'avérer utile. Le branchement du périphérique avant d'allumer la Xbox peut également augmenter les chances de le voir reconnu.
