The Nintendo Game Boy Advance is a handheld console from the sixth generation of video game consoles. The console launched in Japan on March 21st, 2001 followed by North America (June 11th, 2001) and Europe (June 22nd, 2001). Three model revisions of the GBA were released: the Game Boy Advance SP — a foldable model with a front lit screen; a revision of the GBA SP which used a backlight and a button to toggle between normal and bright modes; and the Game Boy Micro — a smaller model of the original with swappable face plates that lacked Game Boy and Game Boy Color backwards compatibility. Backwards compatibility for the Game Boy Advance was possible on the GameCube using the Game Boy Player.

The Game Boy Wiki is a great supplemental resource to this wiki, as well as the development-focused Gameboy Advance Development website.
