This page will lead you through the basic setup of a CFW-capable console and /u/Derf_Jagged's recommendations of what to install.
Answers to common questions and word definitions can be found on the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page.
- Install the latest Evilnat CFW and install it.
- Install the PEX version if you are on CEX (normal retail CECH console).
- Install the P-DEX version if you are on DEX (a test kit DECH console or a retail CECH console converted to DEX)
- Enable the QA Flag. It enables your console to allow downgrading from one CFW to a lower version CFW without use of downgrader firmware. It also allows use of the Debug Settings on the XMB and the update manager.
- Navigate to the "Network" column of the XMB, select "Custom Firmware Tools", "Cobra Tools", "QA Tools", then "Enable QA Flags".
- Dump your EID0_root_key and back it up to your PC. This will let you access your hard drive files in the case that your PS3 dies.
- Plug a flash drive into the rightmost USB port and launch Rebug Toolbox. In the last column select "Dump EID0_root_key" and it will back it up to your flash drive.
- Install webMAN-MOD. It will allow you to have various features, like safely accessing PSN, host an internal web server with various settings, control the PS3's fan speed, launch games from the XMB, and much more.
- You can choose to download the following desired applications, place them on a USB flash drive, plug them into your PS3, and select Install Packages → Media Device, and choose each package.
