The Nintendo 3DS is a handheld console from the eighth generation of video game consoles. The console was launched in Japan on February 26th, 2011 followed by Europe (March 25th, 2011) and North America (March 27th, 2011). The 3DS features 3D cameras and a screen that displays stereoscopic 3D images without the need for glasses. The system features backward compatibility with original Nintendo DS games. Four model revisions were released: the Nintendo 3DS XL — a model with a larger screen; the Nintendo 2DS — a non-collapsible unit without 3D features; and the New Nintendo 3DS — a model with a more powerful CPU, second analog stick, additional buttons, and an improved camera; and the New Nintendo 2DS XL — a New Nintendo 3DS without 3D features.
